LESSON DESCRIPTION

Students will read a biography, then create a timeline of events from the life of the person in their book.

Students will be able to create a timeline of their person of study. Their information will come from the biography that they have finished reading.

CLASSROOM & TIME MANAGEMENT

Students should be able to use the drawing tools, have some keyboarding skills, know how to search and use basic browser tools.
 
Students select and read a biography of their choice.
 
3 class periods. 45 Min. per class.
 
1. Students will read a biography.
2. While reading the biography, students will take notes on five to eight events from the life of the person. Each event will include a description and date.
3. Students will use a word processing program or a draw program to create a timeline.
4. Students will place the information from their notes on the timeline in the appropriate place.
5. After the dates and events are entered, students will access the Internet for various pictures of the person in their biography.
6. When pictures are found, students will copy and paste them into their document.
7. Timeline should have at least two pictures from the Internet.
8. A separate picture will then be drawn by the student, using the draw tools in the word processing program, or the draw program.
9. Students will print and edit hard copy as needed.
 
RESOURCES

* Assorted biographies from school or classroom library.
* Lab or mini lab computer setup.
* Word Processing and/or Draw software, such as Claris, KidPix, MSWord, Paint, StarOffice, Appleworks
* Netscape or web browser

REFLECTION

The students could conduct their research on the internet as well as the use of books. The use of the internet might be more suited to fourth grade or higher.
