Have you thought about sharing a photo project on the Internet, or cataloguing them in some other way?
Are you involved in a hobby or organization with a website?
Do you work with students who might enjoy learning how to build a web photo archive?
 
Demonstrating the use of digital photography software (Apple iPhoto) and webpage design software (Macromedia Dreamweaver or Netscape Communicator) to create, edit, & post photo archives.

Digital Photography and Posting to the Web

Participants will be in a multi-day consortium addressing visual communications via the web using digital photo organization software for Macs. There will be discussion of why it is useful enhance an organization's goals in a visual way with photo archive tools to display projects, showcase student work, etc. Also, collaboration among workshop participants can extend to their own students, and to do so, the workshop will incorporate building of knowledge through constructivism, plus the use of multiple intelligences to meet diverse needs of all learners.

IMPLEMENTATION

 
 
Warm-up (5 min)
Gauge background and prior knowledge of audience - ie: How many people have digital cameras, how many people have posted large quantities of pictures to the web, get feedback from group.

Introduction of Web Archive Projects (5 min)
Presenters will describe a few existing Photo Archive projects to show possibilities to learners, and to spark the idea of creativity, which comes with making traditional photo albums.

Demonstration of Tools (20 min)
This will be a time to present how various types of digital cameras and software works. The goal is to show the "Export" feature from iPhoto software for a group of pictures, and then how they can be made into a kind of Digital Web Archive. Also, intermediate-level tips on how to edit a webpage with Dreamweaver will be shared.

Hands-On Field Work (20 min)
Workshop members will be allowed to take digital cameras and as groups, take digital photos for their own project. 10 min will be used for taking pictures, and 10 minutes more for importing them to computers.

Break (10 min)

Exporting to HTML (20 min)
Learners will have a 5 minute refresher tutorial on Exporting photos to HTML, and then spend time choosing their own photos.

Editing HTML (20 min)
Prior to publishing to the web, the possibilities for adding titles, and arranging with a web-editing software (such as Dreamweaver) will be shown for 5 minutes. Then groups will practice with their own projects.

Extension Activity (time TBD)
Participants may elect to save projects to Disk for later use, and / or publish to the Web.
 
Basic knowledge of digital pictures and computers is helpful.
