Students will explore the logic of AB, ABB, and AAB patterns using hands-on materials and a teacher-made Kidspiration template.
 
Students collaborate using different objects to create a pattern.
 
IMPLEMENTATION

Patterning and prereading skills
 
1.Using PowerPoint examples, students will explore basic ABAB pattern
2.Students create the ABAB pattern using their manipulatives.
3.Using PowerPoint examples, students will explore basic AAB pattern and then students create their own.
4.Using PowerPoint examples, students will explore basic ABB pattern and then students create their own.
5.Students pick a ABAB, AAB, or ABB to share for the class to identify
6.Students cooperate to complete the Kidspiration patterning activity. Share with class if time.
 
Groups of 3-4 mixed-skilled students work together though out this activity.
 
 
 
Students will work collaboratively. Students will work in groups of 4.
 
1 class period. 50 Min. per class.
 
Be careful if using rocks! Enough said!

Read aloud: Beep, Beep, Vroom, Vroom by Stuart Murphy
 
  • Materials and resources:
    Kidspiration software-- teacher-made template
    Powerpoint show to guide student lesson
  • Technology resources:
    Kidspiration, PowerPoint
  • The number of computers required is 1 per 4 students.
  • Students Familiarity with Software Tool:
    Mouse use
    "Laptop" leader procedures to be use all students have equal use to computer
