Students will relate "The Stranger" to pop culture, while creating brief dscription of the story. Students will also examine various characters in the work.
 
 
 
IMPLEMENTATION

 
 
1. Students watch a few recorded movie trailers/previews at start of class.
2. Students separated into groups of 5 (cliffs notes for "The Stranger" will be provided for each group for reference).
3. Each group is to generate a list of contemporary actors they would choose to play the main characters in a film version of "The Stranger." Students are to give justifications as to why they chose the actors that they will.
4. Each group is to create a written manuscripts of a trailer/preview for a contemporary film version of "The Stranger" (which they are to envision): Each manuscript must be at least 75 seconds long.
5. Time permitting, each group is given 1 large sheet of white construction paper with which they will create cover art for their film.
 
 
 
 
 
1 class period. 1 Hr per class.
 
Homework/ Follow Up: As a follow up activity, students will create cover art for their films. Students will then select one group spokesperson to read their manuscript. Students are encouraged to be as creative as possible, even including a soundtrack if so desired.
 
MATERIALS AND RESOURCES

1. TV, VCR, and recording of selected movie trailers/previews.
2. Albert Camus' "The Stranger."
3. Cliffs Notes for "The Stranger."
4. Construction paper, and various art materials (colored pencils, markers, etc.).
 
 
 
STANDARDS & ASSESSMENT

 
 
Assessment: Students will be graded on the quality of their group work, and in their participation.

Literacy Aspect: Students engage in critical thinking about character, plot structure, and summary. Students relate literature to their own culture. Above all, students should have fun doing this activity.
